The Heart in David’s Eyes

by Adrian Ernesto Cepeda

Some are blind with love

but this chiseled Adonis

blinks are always focusing

with desire, he never sees

butterflies but always

feels cupids arrow soaring

in his sight, when he encounters

another vision gliding

in front of him, an excited

spark is lit and when she

turns around to so this

erected Adonis, a match

made igniting this new flame,

they instantly become body

to body, a fiery work of art—

until the morning when he

reawakens nakedly as his heart

pictures another siren, this one

glowing on sidewalks, storybooks

instantly rewritten with one wink

already smitten, this is when

the artist immortalized his creation—

Michelangelo turned David

into a statue, instead of floating

from one encounter to another

he wanted you to fall, hypnotized

for the gaze of this eternal

Lothario just glare at his erected

sight who’s sculpted throbbing

heart always has eyes for you.
